Chapter 33

AI - Date 2

Why Dating Apps Slowly Destroy Your Self-Worth

“When are you ready for the next date?”

“At any time.”

“Isn’t it going a bit too fast between them?

The AI picks a date in a few seconds.”

“Please.

I’ve dated several guys on the same day.”

His gaze was unreadable.

“Okay.

Then we’ll go.”

They sat in his room, and it was more or less an unspoken promise between them that together they would press the button that brought up a new date.

“3 2 1”, they counted down and then they pressed the button together to wait a few seconds for Nikki’s phone to ring.

And so, it did this time too.

She looked at the app on her phone and was filled with rush.

What and who would reveal themselves this time?

“Nervous?”

“Yes.

A little.”

“Why?”

“Why?

Because it’s a new date.”

“You date more guys per day, right?”

“But…” Yes, he was right.

She could only choose to remove what she didn’t want.

The app would pick out something new just as quickly for her.

No, it was about her.

About what…

what darkness the dates would awaken in her.

It wasn’t just random dates.

They were connected to everything she had written and shared for over 10 years on social media.

That app probably knew more about her than she did herself, and that alone scared her.

Joachim had promised dearly that when the experiment was over, the app would be deleted, and everything with her on it too.

“It scares me that it knows everything about me.”

“The app?

I’ll delete everything and no one will know it exists.

No one can find out things about you with it Nikki.

I told you so.”

“But still,” she said quietly, and he melted a little.

This wasn’t the fierce, cocky warrior girl who owned every room she entered.

She let him into the room too and she put her trust in him.

And there was something about that that he liked.

Trust would actually become a keyword very soon.

Nikki picked up her phone, opened the app and read.

Joachim followed her eyes, and he wasn’t sure if he liked what he saw.

“What?

What is it?”

“I… I have to go,” she said.

“You.

Can you read what people write to me in this?”

“Of course I can, but since this is about you and your privacy, I haven’t built such a system and if you don’t want me to, I won’t either.”

“I don’t want to.

I’ll tell you if I need your help.

Okay?”

“Okay, but is everything calm?”

“I don’t know.

I’ll get back to you about this,” she said, waving the phone.

Nikki took determined steps out of his lair.

Maybe the real problem was never love — only the way people searched for it.
