Thoughts

Can Online Dating Ever Lead to Real Love?

Profile blocked by user.

Nikki clicked OK to dismiss the popup.

So.

Now he was out of her life.

She had left him without a word and yet he continued.

Not just that night but the next.

He even tried to get another date.

Men and their pathetic vanity and will.

Nikki lay on the bed and thought back on everything that had happened in the past year.

From all the private arguments within the family, with friends and on social media.

She wasn’t always popular.

On her Dating Line there were certainly also those who disliked her very much and hardly wanted to see her succeed or be happy.

She didn’t worry about them that much.

She had done that once upon a time but with Fredric it let go.

Sometimes those feelings came back, now that she and Fredric were no longer seeing each other.

She wondered about him.

She wondered about them.

Had it ended, or hadn’t it?

The breakup was so strange.

It was like everything was hanging in the air, but he had asked her to leave him alone and she had.

But it was with him that she felt whole.

As if they were building something together that she was a part of.

To be a part of something… She didn’t feel like a part of her school.

Not like a part of her family.

Barely like a part of society.

The only time she felt like a part of something was on social media, but there were also the haters.

But with Fredric it was different.

That feeling of being able to create together.

It was something new and she had just started to absorb the feeling of the new when it burst.

Maybe she could find it in art, she reasoned, but at the same time, art was a job that was done by herself.

It wasn’t the construction she was looking for.

She already had that on Dating Line.

Shit too!

She had promised to contact Joachim in the afternoon and now it was 6:30 PM.

She didn’t feel like talking to anyone, so she pulled the covers over her head for a while before she started playing.

Her favorite game was GTA.

A single disconnected virtual reality where she could get rid of all aggression and get into another character for a while.

Online RPGs were not for her.

GTA, on the other hand, she could spend hours on, completely absorbed in herself.

And so, she spent the evening while Joachim had long since given up on hearing from Nikki.

“It’s a bit like we had a date,” he thought.

Somewhere behind the screens, people were still hoping to be understood.
