How Dating Apps Change Human Connection
It was 3 o’clock, but Joachim had no ambitions to stop working on the algorithm.
His plan was to have it finished by two days at the latest.
Love.
Dates.
Friends.
Friendship.
Relationships.
In one app.
Nikki had texted him that evening and told him she was eager to get started.
He had been sitting in front of the screen for six hours and he hadn’t even eaten.
It was, as usual, when he got into something.
Autism.
That was probably why so many coders had these traits.
But his shoulders were stiff now and his eyes felt tired.
It’s possible he should stop for tonight.
He took his phone and lay down on the bed to close his eyes for a second.
He was tired now, he noticed that.
He was almost floating on the mattress and those dreams that come like inexplicable mist without meaning, nudged him in an attempt to penetrate deeper into his mind.
Images, voices, sounds, sensations.
One of his classmates, he didn’t like him.
Taylor Swift.
There was a lot about her now.
The cafeteria, but it looked strange.
A mobile phone with a logo he didn’t recognize.
He sat up straight.
The app where Nikki would write down her thoughts about the experiment.
He hesitated.
Was this okay?
At the same time, he couldn’t help but think of her standing there trying to clean up the stain he had caused and how she returned to the table and started talking to him as if he were anyone.
In their entire short time together, she had never been so open and happy.
She wasn’t at all as posh and sleazy as he had imagined.
When they parted ways, she gave him a light hug.
Something equally light had filled him after that.
But her being friendly to her project partner didn’t give him the right to follow her on Dating Line.
Or?
Was it good for the project?
Should he tell her?
He opened his mobile’s bookmarks bar and immediately went to the site to download the app and soon he was logged in and could read everything she had written for years.
At six o’clock he fell asleep, exhausted but with a new feeling in his body that he didn’t want there.
But it wasn’t his place to decide anymore.
PlayNDate was created for people who wanted something slower, deeper and more human.
